Help & Support
Everything you need to know about using Careermaxxing — how analysis works, how credits are spent, and what to do if something goes wrong.
What Careermaxxing does
Careermaxxing is a resume × job diagnostic tool. Upload your resume once to get a free ATS/profile analysis, then match it against a specific job posting to see your fit, gaps, and a tailored resume you can download. Paid plans add a personalized 30-day roadmap, LinkedIn/job-portal content, and a hosted portfolio site.
Uploading & analyzing your resume
Upload a PDF, DOCX, or plain-text resume (up to 8MB). We extract the text locally on our servers — no OCR, so a scanned image-only PDF with no selectable text will be rejected; export or re-save your resume as a text-based PDF or DOCX first if that happens.
Your first profile analysis is free. Re-running the analysis later (for example after editing your resume) uses a credit. Analysis results become "your profile" on the dashboard until you re-analyze.
Matching your resume against a specific job posting ("Job Scan") works either by pasting the job posting URL or pasting the text directly. Some job boards (LinkedIn, Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter, and similar) block automated fetching with a sign-in wall — when that happens, paste the job description text manually instead. That's expected behavior, not a bug.
How credits work
Every account has one credit balance. Different actions cost different amounts:
- Profile analysis: free the first time, then 1 credit per re-run
- Job Scan (match against a job posting): 1 credit
- Create resume (tailored, downloadable): 1 credit — reopening one you already created is free
- Prep Guide (Interview Prep): 2 credits
- Portfolio regenerate: 1 credit — your first portfolio is free
If a credit-spending action fails partway through (for example an AI provider error), the credit is automatically refunded — you're never charged for a run that didn't complete. See the full breakdown on the Pricing page.
Reviewing AI-generated output
Every score, rewrite, roadmap topic, and suggestion on Careermaxxing is generated by an AI model. AI output can be inaccurate, generic, or occasionally miss context that only you know about your own experience. Always read every generated bullet, headline, and summary before using it — treat Careermaxxing as a fast first draft and a second set of eyes, not a final authority on your resume or career decisions.
In particular: double-check any numbers, dates, job titles, or claims in a rewritten bullet against your actual experience before submitting it anywhere. Never submit a generated resume without reading it end to end.
Passes & top-ups
Paid plans (Starter, Pro, Max) can be purchased as monthly plans or as one-time 30-day passes with the same credit allowance and no auto-renewal. Top-ups (5-Credit Top-up, 15-Credit Top-up) add credits on top of your current balance at any time, independent of your plan.
Plan/pass access is activated only after your payment is confirmed — this can depend on payment processor confirmation (webhook processing) and may take a short time after you complete checkout. If your plan doesn't show as active a few minutes after a successful payment, contact support with your payment reference rather than paying again.
Downloading your resume (DOCX)
Tailored resumes are exported as an editable Word document (.docx). PDF export isn't offered — a DOCX gives you full control to make any last edits in Word, Google Docs, or similar before you submit it anywhere.
The 30-day roadmap
The roadmap is built around the role you say you're aspiring to, not your current job title — you'll be asked for your aspiring role before it generates. It lays out a 4-week plan of topics tied to the gap between where your profile is today and what that target role typically expects.
Roadmaps can be regenerated at most once every 30 days, so you have time to actually work through the current plan before requesting a new one. If your roadmap was created before this format existed, you'll automatically get one free regeneration into the current format that doesn't count against the 30-day wait.
Troubleshooting
"The AI quota is used up" — this appears when the underlying AI provider's usage limit is temporarily hit. It's transient; wait a bit and try again. Your credit is not spent when this happens.
Resume upload rejected — check the file is under 8MB and is a real PDF/DOCX/text file with selectable text (not a scanned image).
A job posting URL won't load — paste the job description text directly instead; several major job boards block automated fetching.
Stuck on a loading spinner — refresh the page. If it keeps happening on the same action, contact support with the action name and roughly when it happened.
Paid plan not showing as active — see "Passes & top-ups" above; contact support with your payment reference if it doesn't resolve within a few minutes.
